Legacy and Honors

After twenty-seven months of combat action from June of 1942 through September of 1945, Audie had received a total of thirty-three medals and honors as listed below:

• Distinguised Service Cross
• 2 Silver Stars
• The Legion of Merit
• 2 Bronze Stars
• 3 Purple Hearts
• The French Legion of Honor
• The French "Croix de Guerre"
• The Belgian "Croix de Guerre"

Although the average American has not heard of Audie Murphy, he is indeed a war hero with a great story filled with courage, valor, and confidence. He was actually on the front cover of Life magazine in 1945 and has been featured in quite a few newspaper and magazine articles especially around his hometown. Audie truly was a very brave soldier and did many courageoous things. He has left a legacy that is little known but those that do know him could and should be very inspired to persevere through life's hardest challenges.
